“Look, I am about to do something new; even now it is coming. Do you not see it? Indeed, I will make a way in the wilderness, rivers in the desert.”
Have you been to the desert before? I’m not talking about your backyard on a late August afternoon! I mean the real-deal desert where, if left alone for very long without resources, you would die! The Israelites know all about this. They wandered there for 40 years in rebellion against God and refusal to trust and obey Him - missing out in the Promised Land that was so close!
So where do we fit in? Well, although I have never wandered in a physical desert, I have certainly experienced one in my own heart and soul. The dryness, heat, weariness, filthiness, confusion, discouragement, and hopelessness was real because of my own rebellion against God. Have you been there, too?
So how does the Lord of all respond when we cry out to Him in desperation? Read as He declares, “Look! I’m making a new way!” God is right there waiting for us to call out to Him! He responds with mercy, grace, and blessings. Jesus is truly the source of life and the way to salvation... THE River in the desert.
