Ruth Lesson 7 - Whenever True Character is Revealed

Do you have a hero?  I think that my new hero is Ruth!!!  To me, this story of her life has been so encouraging and inspirational so far.  I don’t face the same trials (OBVIOUSLY!), but her gentleness and kindness is beautiful and refreshing.  Ruth is an example of grace, determination, purity, femininity, and faithfulness.  She models what I pray that my life can be for others in response to all that Christ has done for me.

Today, we’ll wrap up chapter 3 and spend some time looking at a few key elements of Ruth’s character as we apply them to our own lives.

Read Ruth 3:6-18.

1. How did Ruth model an honorable and humble attitude towards people in her life?

2.  How did Ruth exude modest behavior that accentuated her beauty rather than manipulated it?

3.  How does Ruth exemplify femininity combined with strength in a Biblically appropriate manner?

I know that characteristics like humility, submissiveness, modesty, femininity, etc. are words that make lots of women cringe these days, but the Bible specifically gives us Ruth as a positive example of these traits in the life of a godly woman. We must understand their importance in our own lives in order to be God-honoring, Christ-glorifying, and edifying to those around us.  Ruth was a beautiful servant and model of reverent, good, pure, kind, submissive, and loving character... everything described in the Titus 2 woman.  Sign me up to be her mentee!!!!

CONNECT: Out of the three questions above, which of these areas is the most difficult for you to embrace in your own life?  Why do you think so?

What experience in your life has been key to strengthening your character?

What has been the connection between trials and character growth in your life?

The Lord is truly working ALL for our good and His glory!

I’m going to leave you with a few verses that dig deeper into each of these character traits.  If one of them really sticks out to you as the encouragement you’ve been needing, I would challenge you to memorize it or write it on a notecard. I carried the SAME notecard for over a year that got me through a tough season... in my wallet, on my dashboard, in my back pocket, inside my phone case, as my Bible bookmark.  God’s Word was and is my weapon for battling weakness and the enemy’s lies!  Grab ahold!

MODESTY 1 Peter 3:4, Colossians 3:5
