Rahab Lesson 4 - A Divine Appointment

My favorite thing about having a “pop-up” style shop is that I get to move around a bit and meet more of you girls!!!  There’s something so fun and special about a sweet hug after we’ve followed each other online for a while -   sisters in Christ are amazing!  It never fails that God also puts specific people in my shop for me to meet.  Let me explain...

He will have me choose a specific Bible verse and write a specific devotional to put with a specific design on a specific tee placed on a specific table at a specific event to catch the eye of a specific woman who needs specific ministry for her specific circumstance!  Okay, I know... You get it!  But it’s true.  These are not coincidences.  They are divine appointments.

We see this same type of miracle with Rahab and the spies.  Read Joshua 2:8-14 and observe how God readied Rahab’s heart to meet the spies and how He sent them straight to her!  Divine indeed!

1.  What does Rahab share with the spies that lets you know the Lord had been preparing her heart to receive His deliverance?

2.  Do all people who hear this truth respond in the same way?

3.  How do the spies respond to Rahab’s plea for rescue?

CONNECT:  Do you really believe that God works in the hearts of believers and nonbelievers simultaneously to connect them for His plan of salvation?

How have you seen this work in your life?  On both sides?!?

The Lord has used this passage to greatly convict me for sure.  Even yesterday, I was annoyed with an inconvenience that cost me a little comfort - and it came in the form of a cup of cold water for a contractor here at our farm.  Literally.

I won’t go into a lot of details, but it was 9:45pm.  I was tired, a tad selfish and just wanted them to go home for the day.  My heart still breaks at my attitude towards these hard working guys who were stalled here due to car trouble.  I wasn’t friendly.  In fact, after discussing this with my sweet husband on the phone (bless this man!), I heeded his words of “encouragement” and went and apologized for my attitude!  I spent the next hour and a half with my teenage son trying to help and visiting with them.  They were so nice and truly needed our help to get back home.

The car finally started and they left... everyone was exhausted.  My son experienced a glimpse of the life of hard-working people just trying to make it, and he was a servant.  I am so grateful for him.  I, on the other hand, experienced God’s gentle hand of attitude correction!  No doubt, he was preparing me for this lesson today.

Divine appointments.  O Lord, I pray that you will give us eyes to see and hearts to respond to those who need rescue right outside our front door.  It’s so much more than a cup of cold water.

"Whoever receives you receives me, and whoever receives me receives him who sent me.  The one who receives a prophet because he is a prophet will receive a prophet's reward, and the one who receives a righteous person because he is a righteous person will receive a righteous person's reward. And whoever gives one of these little ones even a cup of cold water because he is a disciple, truly, I say to you, he will by no means lose his reward."

Matthew 10:40-42
