Ready, Set,... Nah. I think I’ll just stay.

There are many times in my life when I’ve heard the Lord say “go,” after all, life is a continual journey of watching and waiting for the “go” from Him and choosing whether or not to obey. “Go” has looked like various things in my 45 years, and I have met the command with various responses that have directly effected the outcome.

Perhaps you have a “go” dancing in your heart even as you read this.  That’s not a coincidence or fate - it’s God’s way of confirming your calling!  But how do we respond when we clearly hear the “go” from Him?

I’m currently studying the children of Israel in a Bible Study and on my own as I dig deeper, and the Israelites are poster children for God’s faithful leadership and their rebellion to it.  I’m so often quick to judge them until I realize that they are the OT parallel to me... a NT chosen child through faith in Jesus Christ.

I can learn so much from their example, including the one I studied in Ezra this morning, as they were called to go back home from captivity.  See if you recognize yourself in one of their reasons not to go:

1.  AGE - “I’m weary.  It’s been so long.  I’m just so tired.”

2.  COMFORT - “I like it here.  Life is easy and good.”

3.  PRIDE - “I don’t want to give up what I’ve built for myself here.”

4.  FEAR - “That journey is too dangerous and risky. I’m afraid.”

5.  TOO MUCH - “It’s just too much to start again.  I don’t even know how.”

6.  NO THANKS - “I’m good, God. I’ve got this.”

Oh man!  I identify with each one, and have used them at various times in my response to the “go” of the Lord!  And what do I miss as a result??? A great adventure as a chosen and creative instrument in building His kingdom.

Oh, He WILL build it... and He’s inviting us to be a part!  What a gift!  Girlfriend, it’s not too late if you’ve already said no because He’s lovingly offering again... right now!

May you and I respond whole-heartedly on this Monday - “YES, LORD!  I’ll go!  Fill me in on my part along the way!”

And I heard the voice of the Lord saying, "Whom shall I send, and who will go for us?" Then I said, "Here I am! Send me." - Isaiah 6:8

Trust in the LORD with all your heart, and do not lean on your own understanding. In all your ways acknowledge him, and he will make straight your paths. - Proverbs 3:5-6

For to this you have been called, because Christ also suffered for you, leaving you an example, so that you might follow in his steps. - 1 Peter 2:21
